Artboard 2 v2 2. With today’s the release of Downie 2.9 it is evident that release of Downie 3 is getting closer! There are still at least 9 updates coming for Downie 2.x 6 updates coming for Downie 2.x, but I thought I’d provide some information about the upgrade.
Firstly, it will be an enourmous update. The main focus will go to the UI and usability, with many great new features (see below for a list that will get updated during development). But many of you are surely wondering about pricing. The price will remain $19.99 with these upgrade paths:

Downie 3.3.6 June 14, 2018. New: Downie now creates an invisible scratch folder within the downloads folder rather than using system temporary folder. This will definitely please users with small startup drives. New: Ability to select first/last N items on a playlist. New: Experimental ABC iView is now supported without using a VPN or a proxy server. More sites will come with Downie 3.4. Downie 3 is the next major release of Downie. UI Redesign – the UI has been redesigned from the ground up. It’s faster, more fluent and visually pleasing.
Menu Bar Icon – control the downloads from the menu bar – without the need to switch away from your current work.
Improved HLS Support – HLS streams download up to 4 times faster!
DASH Stream Support – DASH streams are now supported!
Simple Mode – if your preference is to keep the UI as simple as possible, there’s a simple mode for you!
Browser Extension Options [TBD] – browser extensions now allow to send the current link and set postprocessing.
Automatic Queue Sorting – have your queue automatically sorted by progress or name.
File Grouping by Site and Playlist – all downloads can now be sorted into folders based on where you downloaded them from or from which playlist are they.
Delayed Queue Start – schedule your downloads for the middle of the night so that you’re not hogging the bandwidth for the rest of the family!
Popup Window Support in User-Guided Extraction – the User-Guided Extraction now optionally supports popup windows so that you can sign into sites that open login in a separate window.
Major Postprocessing Improvements – postprocessing of some downloads can take only a few seconds instead of minutes thanks to Downie analyzing the video prior to the conversion!

When will be Downie 3 released?

Windowless Mode - Ability to close main window without closing the app.
Simple Mode - Less distracting way to display your downloads.
Download Folder Hierarchy - Options to sort downloaded files by website, playlist and include playlist information in file name.
Automatic Ordering - Option to automatically order the queue by progress or name.
Automatic Clearing - Option to automatically remove completed downloads from the queue.
Safari Extension Options - Option not to activate Downie when using Safari extension.
Browser Extensions + Postprocessing - Browser extensions are updated and support sending links to Downie with a postprocessing intent.
DASH Stream Support - It's a good thing!
HLS Subtitles Support - More weird letters, but trust us, it's a good thing.
AAC Support - Option not to enforce MP3 with audio postprocessing.
User-Guided Extraction + Pop-Ups - User-Guided Extraction now supports pop up windows (disabled by default), which allows signing into some services using e.g. Facebook, Google or LinkedIn.
? Improvements
Renaming - Rename downloads during the download or even after they finished.
HLS Streams - Completely rewritten download of HLS streams - it is up to 4 times faster.
Postprocessing - Thanks to Downie's new video analysis, the postprocessing for HLS downloads now takes seconds instead of minutes.
History - History window is now extended and includes icon previews.
Quality Selection - Rewritten automatic quality selection so that highest resolution gets always picked.
Support - Ability to send a generic bug report right from the app.
User-Guided Extraction - The User-Guided Extraction has been much improved, highlights more probable downloads, displays details about proposed downloads and can hide the sidebar.
Memory Management - After launch, Downie takes about 10-20MB less memory, the User-Guided Extraction memory cleanup is improved, the Login Browser uses a new generation of web browser on macOS 10.13 or later.
Memory Management 2 - Processing YouTube (and some other) links uses considerably less memory.
